Kata training

 

Using repetition to build familiarity with the rhythm and movements of kata 1 to 5. 

Tips:
  • keep your chin up and your gaze level
  • try and picture your opponent throughout the kata, turn to face them when they move off the line, e.g. in kata no.2 and no. 4; when you're the shidachi try to 'see' the attack coming in.
  • practice the kamae (chudan/seigan, jodan migi and hidari, gedan, hasso and waki) positions by themselves. Make sure you are confident the both feel and look right
  • practice rei and sonkyo by themselves as well.
